Martin Pyykkonen, an analyst with Wedge Partners, sees Pandora’s content costs jumping to $148.7 million in 2012 and $261.6 million by 2013. Pandora’s beef lies in the fact that it pays artists’ royalties while over-the-air radio rivals don’t pay performers a dime. Terrestrial radio stations pay fees only to songwriters, a group that Pandora and Sirius XM also compensate.
