Maybe next time — and not on your turf.

That’s the message Russia’s Vladimir Putin sent to his US counterpart Barack Obama this week — catching the White House off-guard by canceling a scheduled appearance at the upcoming Camp David G-8 summit.

Too busy making Cabinet appointments, declared Putin, who decided instead to send his flunky — er, prime minister — Dmitry Medvedev in his place.

It’s especially embarrassing for the White House, which had specifically moved the summit from Chicago to Camp David to accommodate Putin.

That’s because the G-8 meeting was originally set to take place right before a Chicago summit of NATO leaders that — by definition — could not include Putin.
